"Good Budget Hotel centrally located"
Good budget hotel in a safe neighborhood with a mini-market across the street and a pizza restaurant adjacent next door. It was a 10-minute walk from the main train station. The room was cozy and kept nicely warm. The bathroom is kind of funky since it's this whole box unit thing. The shower worked great, hot water stayed hot. The only drawback is there is no ventilation. It's a no frills hotel but works great for a short stay.

"Uber cool stay in Helsinki"
This hotel has automated key coding for your building and room. You cannot check in before 16:00 with your code as there is no one to check in with. The room is great. Very smart design to give everything you need within a compact space. I was very comforable and liked the room. Good location near shops and restaurants and within easy walking distance of sites.

"Not a typical hotel, read on"
The hotel doesn't have any staff or front desk, you get a room# and access code prior to check in and you are pretty much on your own which can be very inconvenient. They have a phone in the lobby which connects to their service desk somewhere but no one ever picks up the call. With that said, If you arrive Helsinki early or leaving late. there is no storage for your luggage. If you didn't know this you would be dragging your luggage around town trying to find a storage (Central station is probably the only option), or going to different attractions with them. Also, there is no room service at all, I stayed 4 nights and no one came to clean the room, removing garbage and all, which I didn't mind but something you should know. Overall I enjoyed my stay, wifi is reliable, location is great and the room condition is acceptable.

"Interesting experience"
An unusual hotel. No reception desk, no staff in the halls. But the room was decent size, and all of the necessities a single traveller would want were there. The only suggestions I'd make would be to put some small night table(s) at the top end of the bed and to clean the ugly looking mattress (which is still of good quality though).

"Warning! No staff around"
If I had known about this new "concept" in the hotel industry, I would have never booked. A couple of days before my stay, I received an email in Finnish. (Note: Finnish is not an Indo-European language, so knowledge of German, Swedish or any other language won't help.) No big deal, I thought, because many hotels send notices in advance. When I got there during a rainy mid-morning August day, I was stunned to find no one there. Fortunately, some other guests were leaving so I was able to go inside and use the phone to talk to a live human. I found out there was no way to check in until 4 pm, and there was nowhere to leave my bags. So the person told me to schlepp my bags to the central train station more than half a mile away in the rain. Storing my bags there cost 6 euros, thus depleting some of the "savings" I received from booking this budget hotel. There were no restrooms available in the "lobby". I stayed for two nights and there was no cleaning in between. The room was acceptable but really there was an eerie feeling with no hotel staff. From self-checkouts to now automated hotels, I know everyone is trying to save to meet the bottom line. But I would rather have someone employed to provide me human contact when I am in a foreign city and don't speak the language, one of the world's hardest, even if it costs a little bit more. At least warn us when booking not to expect staff so we can make a choice whether or not to support this new "concept"

"No frills hotel close to the bus station"
The Omena is a "no frills" hotel. You are emailed a door code and a room number. Check in is not until 4pm (which can be a problem when you arrive on a train, bus or plane and have no where to store your luggage (as we found out). There is no staff on site, so don't have an immediate need. The hotel itself was clean, and they were doing some maintenance on it during our stay.

"Different, but good"
No desk clerks is a bit difficult to get used to, but as long as you don't run into any problems with your room, or your door code, or the internet, etc., it is very cool. You are never worried abut losing your key because there isn't one. As long as no one finds out your code, your room should be fairly secure. It is an excellent location, just 5 minutes to Stockmann's, 8 minutes to the train station, 10 minutes to Market Square and the ferry to the Sea Fortress, tons of restaurants, bars, cafes, markets. I liked the funky room decor, and enjoyed the fridge and microwave. Shower was good. Only negative is the 4 pm check-in time, most especially because, as it is self check-in, then there is no way to drop your bags to go sightseeing while you wait for check-in. Fortunately, I knew this ahead of time and checked my bags at the train station while I relaxed in town waiting for 4 o'clock. Also, 4:00 is late for ANY hotel. There were several people who waited on a bench right outside the hotel for 4-5 hours for check-in. Why they did not go leave their bags at the station and do something besides sit there, I do not know. As long as you have no issues with your room, code, internet, etc., then I can totally recommend Omena Hotel.

The 4pm check-in time is due to our automatic door code system, and unfortunately we are not able to provide an earlier check-in. "Very bad Service."
It really was a bad experiment. There is no reception, no room service, nobody to talk or to complain to. The room was without a dressing, cloths board or even shelves to arrange cloths.

Although the hotel has a very convenient location, it's clean, And in general terms comfortable; I didn't like the experience of not having human contact with people from that hotel At all. Our check in time was set for p.m. and we arrived at two on we had to wait on till four outside in the very cold weather for the access code to activate and then we can get into the room. Not having staff gives no room for flexibility or unexpected situations that you experience as a traveler .

Part of the room resembled a 1950s American diner with a bright red plastic wall, but other than that, everything was great and comfortable. The room I had had 2 beds and two couch-chairs that could unfold into beds (maybe small beds?) if needed.

"Great hotel for the price."
I read a few bad reviews but still booked it. If you want a 5 star hotel then you have to pay for it. But for an affordable price there is nothing I could complain about his hotel. Rooms are well clean and spaceous. Stayed for 3 nights and never heard noises. And the best is the location! 5 minute walk and you are in the center. Close to everything. I have a very pleasant stay this Helsinki hotel.

Central location in Helsinki. Gusts are emailed an access code to enter the building and their rooms. There is no front desk or staff (other than cleaning staff). So if you want any kind of support or services, you should go elsewhere. Unfortunately there is no "not applicable" in the staff rating for Expedia, so I entered "disappointing" - which it was, actually, as I arrived early and it would have been nice to speak to someone about leaving bags until the 4pm check in.

"Clean and nice central hotel."
Loved the hotel. It had everything that I needed. Great to have extra space to sit down and work. I liked the idea of not having any staff and all communication done over the e-mail. With a central location as it is no need for concierge. A coffee shop and a grocery store are across the street. Very helpful. I travel a lot and for the price I get what I need and do not pay for things that don't need.

This is the hotel of the future? There is no desk. Communication is by email. You are given an access code. There is NO social aspect to staying here. The location in Helsinki is very good. There is no dining area. There are options for food in local restaurants and it seems that some stays include breakfast locally. Ours did not. The room was neat, clean.

"nice hotel close to the center"
Clean room, enough space - there' s a separate sitting area, good location. You can easily walk anywhere in the city from the hotel, Helsinki being very small. I can't say I'm a big fan of the express check in invention, because there is no reception, so nowhere to leave your luggage if you arrive earlier or need to spend some time in the city after check out. The check in is at 4 PM, which is the latest I've ever heard of, and the door code is only activated then, which means you cannot enter the hotel before 4:00. We stayed there on a Saturday night and it was quite noisy, as there are some clubs on the street. There's a fridge in the room with a glass door and a big light inside, that didn't help us sleep either. But I guess I would stay there again if ever in Helsinki.

Only the cheap price and central location made this room bearable. It was misrepresented on the website (much smaller than shown), was stuffy, and very noisy. We jokingly referred to it as the "bed box" and will never stay there or in another Omena property ever again.

The room is big and clean, has all you need inside the room, TV, hair dryer, kettle, chair and small table......... The only thing needs to know is that there is no front staff in the hotel, visitor requires to get the room number and entry code before arrival. I will stay in this hotel again.

"Great hotel if your on a budget"
For what you pay, this hotel is great. Yeah there are no staff on-site so if you're a fussy customer who relies on staff presence, I wouldn't recommend it. But for short stays, it does the job. Rooms are spacious, clean, comfortable and well equipped. Check in and out is automated with a key code so all you need to do is arrive after check-in time (which is a bit later than usual at 4pm) and more importantly check out before 12pm or else you get locked in - simple!

"So simple"
Get an email with a door code, room number and address, with phone number for enquiries or emergencies... That's it... Arrive and walk in as you please, no language barrier, no confusion and there's a convenience store right across the road. Won't be great for romantic getaways, but perfect for those singles, couples or groups who are happy to get on with it themselves.

"no consideration of customer comfort"
i had very bad experience as health and safety is a big concern, no phones at home to call emergency if needed. the room has never been cleaned for 5-nights of my stay, no substitution of the consumables like tea/coffees. no safe for locking important stuff instead of carrying them all the time, in the absence of reception desk there should be detailed information in the room for accessing anything needed urgently,

"Tiny space but good location"
Rooms advertised as sleeping 4 are not really fit for purpose if you travel with friends as the space is really cramped and there's only 1 "real" bed in the room. Location however is great and gives you extremely easy access to local attractions.

The room is small for 4 person to stay. Anyway, the price is right. Therefore nothing to complaint. Internet access is superb. You might find a bit worry if you are use to the assistant of hotel staff as this hotel do not have reception.

"Good location hotel, 16:00 check-in is concern"
This is no reception desk hotel, you will received room number and pass code 2 days before you check-in, but the check-in time is 16:00, it is a bit late. If you have big luggage sorry there is no store to keep your luggage, you should left your luggage in train station. This is a big concern if you arrived in morning time. There is a hotline phone at the lobby, they are very helpful that help me to call a taxi when we leave and the taxi arrived in 5 minutes.

"Convenient and clean hotel"
The location of the hotel and the room are excellent, however, it's so difficult for travelers who come from Asia, since there is no reception, it's fine if we were informed and got the room no. and access code beforehand, we were quite puzzled at that time. Luckily, 2 kind Finnish people helped us to call the reception for getting the code. Besides, we asked for a double bed, but they were only 2 mattresses combined. Also, we prefer a take out shower head instead of a fixed one. Nonetheless, to be honest, the condition of room is really great, clean and spacious, we really love it.
